Tonight we have a special update about one of the lucky few who already has a copy of Stacket.

During OrcCon, we met many folks and played many games of Stacket. We taught many people the game and got to observe a great deal of fun and excitement as people played. What was very interesting is the ways in which other people “taught” us things about our game. One of those people was Olivia.
—–

Olivia is a graduate student in psychology, right now, she works with at-risk youth. Kids who are in a little trouble, but certainly not beyond reaching. The thing is, reaching them presents a real challenge. Day to day, Olivia explores ways toreach them. And here is where she taught us something – she saw Stacket as a way to reach them. Stacket is a simple game, but very challenging, and it rewards analysis and thinking ahead. It’s not chess, but in the same way, you need to anticipate the advantages and consequences of your actions.

The other thing Olivia pointed out was the important of the quick engagement. If you don’t snag these kids’ interest quickly, it might be very difficult to get it at all. And Stacket is almost instantaneous, both in grasping what you need to do, and also in the excitement of trying to accomplish it.

Olivia was excited to use Stacket with the kids she works with. She was so certain of the usefulness of Stacket in her work that she wanted to buy a copy from us right then and there with her own money. As you folks know, the game won’t be manufactured for a while yet, and the few prototypes we have aren’t things we sell (even though more than a few of you have asked). So, what were we to do? The only thing we could do. We gave her one of the prototypes and asked that she let us know how it went in her sessions.

Olivia is pretty busy, but we got the first hint of a response from her today:

“Stacket has been really helpful in therapy. The kids I’ve used it with have really enjoyed playing it with me and it has really helped facilitate our communication. I look forward to using it with many more clients to help them relax and open up!

Thanks,
Olivia

Thank you, Olivia, for helping us learn a little about our game!
