In an email to a prospective playtester and game designer for Everide Games, I outlined some of the company’s short term developmental plans. Here is an excerpt from the email:
First, my game company is multimedia, so I am primarily focused on conventional games that can easily be ported to the online browser (in say… flash)
Second, the mass market (and people of all ages & interests) is my target market. Although I enjoy playing and like to design strategic games, I do not plan to release any until I have already built up the necessary infrastructure to sell them. Right now, I am focused on games that will spread (the company’s name) quickly through word of mouth. So, it may be some time before I produce any ‘Euro’ games.
Third, be wary of CCGs. It is a market with too much supply and too little demand that is dominated by a few key players with a lot of money for cross-promotion and has serious barriers to entry (general consumer backlash & the fact that your friends need to have their own collection to play). So, resist the temptation.
